Obituary for Brigid Gregory (O' Dea)

Brigid “Bridie” Gregory (nee O’Dea) was born on August 11, 1939 in Kilfinny, County Limerick, Ireland. She was the sixth of eleven children born to John and Margaret O’Dea.

Brigid emigrated to the United States in 1957 at the age of eighteen. She settled in the Park Slope section of Brooklyn with family members who had previously established a life here. She worked for fourteen years at Young & Rubicam advertising agency in Manhattan. In later years, she worked as a school aide for the NYC Board of Education where co-workers turned into many lifelong friends.

Brigid was passionate and active in the Irish American community. She was very involved with such groups as the Commodore Barry Club and the New York Young Ireland’s Camogie Club. She loved to spend summers upstate in the “Irish Alps” East Durham, New York, where she would attend many Irish dinner dances and festivals.

She is predeceased by her loving husband, Raymond Gregory, former NYPD lieutenant and also by her sisters Anastasia Frawley, Margaret “Peggy” Monaghan, Nora O' Dea ,Ann O'Dea brothers Timothy O’Dea and Johnny O’Dea, and beloved nephews Wayne O’Dea, Brian Monaghan and her godson Donal Nolan.
Brigid is survived by her loving son Robert and his wife Danielle (Diamond), her twin granddaughters Zoë and Dakota, her sisters Mary Nolan, Josie O’Neill, Lizzie O’Dea, Catherine Reidy and many nieces, nephews and friends.
