Obituary for Carol Ann Gottschalk (Dydo)

Carol-Ann Gottschalk (née Dydo) of Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, 80, passed away peacefully on
Sunday, May 10 at Hamilton Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was the daughter of
the late Michael and Josephine (Corhan) Dydo.
Carol was a lifelong resident of Brooklyn. Born on May 16, 1939 in Bath Beach, she grew up in
Bay Ridge and graduated from Bay Ridge High School. After marrying, she moved to
Bensonhurst, and was employed for many years in the Accounts Receivable Department at
Holt, Rhinehart and Winston in Manhattan. In her later years, she worked as a receptionist at
the law firm of Dengler, Dengler and Dengler, also in Manhattan. Preceded in death by her
loving husband Robert Gottschalk, she remained in the same neighborhood for her entire adult
life and developed a close circle of wonderful friends and neighbors. Carol will be fondly
remembered for her upbeat personality, sense of humor, and her passion for movie and TV
trivia, as well as her deep devotion to her family, especially, her sister and brother-in-law and
her nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She never missed a single birthday,
anniversary or holiday call to each of them. She was a faithful communicant of Saint Finbar
Catholic Church.
Carol is loved and survived by her sister, Barbara (Dydo) Forrestall and husband Mike; nieces
and nephews Laurie Ann (Andrew) Gorman, Michael (Jun) Forrestall, Eileen (John) Szajdecki,
Patricia (Wendell) Dinio, Richard (Anita) Gottschalk, and Gary (Melissa) Gottschalk; nine greatnieces and great-nephews, and many beloved cousins. Due to the pandemic, there will be no
services at this time and burial will be private. A memorial Mass for Carol will be held at a
future date when all her family can gather and celebrate the goodness of her life. In lieu of
flowers, donations in her memory can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
(stjude.org).
