Obituary for George A. Wardi

GEORGE WARDI, of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, passed away on October 18th, 2023, in his 95th year. A graduate of Fort Hamilton High School, George proudly served his country in the Army Reserve from 1948-1952; and on Active Duty as a Sergeant in the Military Intelligence Unit from 1952 until he was honorably discharged in 1955. In the late-1950s, George collaborated with his dear friend Al Hanna to launch Alge’s Penthouse, a modest bar and restaurant that over the span of more than sixty years would transform into a string of popular Brooklyn discotheques – including The Penthouse, Pastels, Legacy, and Suite. In 1959, George embarked on a lifelong journey of love and partnership when he married his beloved, Gisele. Their union spanned more than 64 years, during which time they built a beautiful family and a fulfilling life together. George was not merely a resident of Bay Ridge; he was a beacon of the community – a legend beloved for his big heart, boundless generosity, and authentic charm. He was a role model for a life well lived, and his legacy will serve as a guiding light in the hearts of his loving wife Gisele, his children ( Dyanne, Albert, and Lori), his cherished grandchildren (Robert, Albert, and Tyler) – and all of those who had the privilege of knowing him
Donations in George's name can be made to St. Mary's Antiochian Orthodox Church.
