Obituary for Joseph William Maiello

Joseph W. Maiello
(January 15, 1944 - June 30, 2020)

Joe “Poppy” Maiello, beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend passed away on June 30, 2020 at the Family Compound in East Quogue. He is survived by his loving wife Eileen (née Rogan), his adored children, Joe Jr., Jim, and Gina; their spouses Irene, Sarah, and Chris; and his cherished grandchildren Kaila, Jack, Jake, James, Cecilia, Michael, and Anthony. Joe is also survived by his brother Tony, his “adopted” sister Maria, and his loving in-laws Kay Battaglia, James and Kay Rogan, and Hugh and Fran Rogan. In addition to the tremendous contributions Joe made to the public education system during his professional career, Poppy took the most pride in his family and friends. He made everyone feel welcome and lit up every room he entered. People gravitated to Poppy and they were never disappointed by his quick wit or ridiculous comments, stories and jokes. While he may have complained during and afterwards, at heart Poppy loved all of it. He truly enjoyed having a good time and he would want all of us to remember the extraordinary times that were shared.

One day hopefully soon when the world will allow we will all come together to celebrate Joe’s wonderful life.
