Mary C. Hyland passed away peacefully the morning of February 1, 2021 at the age of 95.

Mary was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. She graduated from St. Ephrem Grammar School, Bishop McDonnell High School, and Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School.

For over 30 years, Mary passionately worked in the Human Rights Division of the United Nations. Over the span of her career there, she had the opportunity to travel to many distant places and develop close friendships with associates from different countries, backgrounds, and cultures.

Mary enjoyed traveling, but was also enamored with all that New York City had to offer, its theaters, museums, and restaurants. She spent much of her leisure time reading and watching movies.

Mary is survived by her sister-in-law, Ruby Hyland, many cousins both here in the U.S. and in Ireland, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, John and Mary, her brothers Jack and Bill, sister-in-law Maureen, and cousins Mike and Maureen Nealon.

Mary was devoted to her family and friends, and she will live forever in their hearts.

Visitation Hours are Sunday, February 7th, 2pm-4pm at McLaughlin and Sons Funeral Home 9620 Third Avenue Brooklyn, New York.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, February 9th at 10:30 am at St. Ephrem’s Church, 929 Bay Ridge Parkway, Brooklyn, New York.

Donations may be made in Mary’s memory to UNICEF, Calvary Hospital, Doctors Without Borders or to a charity of your choice.
