Obituary for Minerva Helwani (Bourni)

Minerva Helwani, passed away peacefully on March 8th, 2024, at Methodist Hospital, in Brooklyn, NY, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 10, 1930 to Victoria and Turke Helwani in Homs, Syria.
Throughout her life, she touched the hearts of many with her warm hospitality, inviting smile, grace, and charm.
Minverva will be remembered for her community service and her involvement in the Hamalet el Tib. She was deeply devoted to her family and found joy in cooking for her children and grandchildren, taking walks in her neighborhood, and enjoying traveling when she could.
Minerva was so very proud of her family, culture and ethics. She was appropriately named after the Roman goddess Minerva, known for wisdom and justice. Her kindness, compassion, wit, and contagious sense of humor, will forever be cherished by those who knew her.
She is survived by her six children (Aida, Kathy, Zouka, Ikram, Najwa and Tarek and their spouses, 16 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, and preceded in death by her loving husband, Aref Helwani.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at McLoaughlin Funeral Home, 9620 3rd Avenue, Brooklyn, NY from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm. An additional wake will be held Wednesday, March 13th, 2024 at St. Nicholas Cathedral, located at 355 State St, Brooklyn, NY from 4pm to 8pm followed by the funeral mass at 8pm. The closing prayers will be Thursday morning, March 14th, 2024, at 9am at St. Nicholas Cathedral followed by the burial at Resurrection Cemetery, 361 Sharrott Avenue, Staten Island, NY.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Nicholas Cathedral in her honor.

May her soul rest in peace, and may her memory be eternal and bring comfort to those who mourn her loss.
