Obituary for Shirley M. Adelhelm

Shirley Adelhelm (nee Kinney) passed away peacefully on October25th, 2023 at
the age of 91 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Sunrise in New Jersey. Shirley was born
in Sheboygan, Wisconsin on August 5th,1932 to the late Frieda and Dennis
Kinney.
Shirley married Bill, her late husband, in New York in 1954. In the 1950’s while
Bill was pursuing his major league baseball career with the Brooklyn Dodgers
organization and playing ball for the Sheboygan Indians he met the love of his
life, Shirley! They married in 1954 in New York. Shirley and Bill became the proud
parents of three sons, Stevan, Gary and Billy.
Shirley was known to many as the ‘Mayor of Ft Hamilton Parkway’ and a
constant cheerleader at all of her boys’ St Patrick’s Little League Games. She
spent many years working locally at Globe Drug Store on 86thSt where so many
people of Bay Ridge came to know Shirley and enjoyed her humor as well as
appreciated her compassion for others. She was a strong woman and always did
her best to keep a positive attitude, even though times of hardship.
Shirley is survived by her son Stevan and his wife Mary, and their son Matthew;
her son Gary and his wife Antoinette and their two children Michael (wife Kelly)
and Diana (husband Ryan). Shirley was the very proud and loving great grandma
to four great grandchildren who she adored! Shirley is predeceased by her
cherished son Billy.
