My deepest condolences to the Buckley family on the loss of an extraordinary human being. I remember visiting your home in Kings Park when Dan and I were at Pius X. I enjoyed the visit and was so impressed with how well all the siblings got along and worked together helping Mom prepare that night's dinner. This was a great family. I always admired Dan's goodness, his generous and friendly nature, his intensity, and his razor sharp mind. Dan could speak at length on almost any subject and very often did. Later I learned to admire Dan for his courage and his refusal to allow daunting challenges to crush his magnificent spirit. The class reunion dinner he arranged and hosted in Brooklyn was a big success. Everyone had a great time and was grateful to Dan for the considerable trouble he went to to arrange it. At the end of the night he was beaming.
Sometime later, thanks to Bob Norton and Jerry Kiernan, I was able to visit with Dan in his apartment. By the time I arrived, Bob and Jerry had already left, so Dan and I got to spend some quqlity visiting time with each other. It was lots of fun. But during our visit Dan got a call. As I found out a little later, it was the kind of call he got almost every day, a call from someone who relied on Dan for help to get through the day. And Dan was there, very willingly, to do it. As I listened to him speak, I heard him, with enormous empathy, counseling this person, offering him comfort and consolation as well as good practical advice. At the end of the call, Dan reminded him he could call again anytime. I thought, Dan has a vocation after all! This is priestly work he's doing. And he's doing it very well. So many things to admire about Dan. So many people will miss him. - Frank Hendricks

Danny and I met as freshmen at St Pius X Prep Seminary. We were in different sections that first year and didn't get to know each other well. I recall being somewhat awed by Dan's prodigious intellect, frankly! Fast forward. I took a chopper from my LZ Baldy in I Corps Vietnam up to Danang, the Hqs. of my (Army) Civil Affairs Company, which was attached to the III Marine Amphibious Force Hqs, which commanded all Marine units and operations in that part of the country. Sunday morning I'm on the line for communion at Mass when, lo, Danny and I spotted each other. We had a brief, memorable visit. Earlier this year, Danny and I had a wonderful visit by phone, which I will cherish. We talked about Vietnam of course and lots of other things. Danny's courage in adversity; his goodness to others undergoing similar challenges inspire me every day to be better. As we Vietnam veterans like to say to each other, Welcome Home, Danny. God's peace.

God most definitely blessed me when he brought you into my life in our fellowship. You have been the steady and solid person who I came to rely on and share my thoughts with. You always encouraged me and taught me many things. I will miss you very much my friend and I look forward to when we meet again. Rest in Peace Dan.
